The construction of a new three-wing tower amplified the wayfinding challenge created with years of additions, department moves, and pathway cuts. The five-building campus had become a literal maze of hallways and broken connections. The new tower would only confound the problem under the existing wayfinding system with a second main entrance, four secondary entry points, three parking ramps, and a relocated emergency department. We devised a plan that integrated wayfinding into a logical, sequential system that first-time visitors could easily understand. The plan included dividing the site into large sections identified by direction and color. Because there were two main floors, floor-level indicators were included on all directional signs. The design of the sign system complemented the architecture, reflecting the client’s brand, and brought the new aesthetic into prominence. The exterior monument signs are used to help visitors navigate the large campus and provide an impressive entry into HealthPartner’s premiere site.
